Safe House
The Safe House is a place for children to stay when they are in immediate need of a secure and caring home. Currently, there are 40 children staying at the safe house under the care of two live-in mamas as well as the KYGN team of teachers and support staff.

Nursery class
The Nursery Class has 48 children aged between 3–5 years taught by Ms Theresia. This year, the children have been learning numbers and some basic arithmetic. They have even begun to learn some English. They enjoy art classes where they can colour in pictures and love to sing the alphabet song.

Pre Unit class
The Pre Unit is being taught by Ms Munira, who has been a KYGN teacher for four years now. The Pre Unit has 45 children aged 5–7 years. This term, they have concentrated on numeracy, reading, writing and science. Despite their young age, most of the lessons are conducted in English and the children sit monthly tests. They all regularly use the library and enjoy borrowing books.

Primary One class
Primary 1 has 55 children aged 6–7 and is being taught by Ms Dativ. This term, they have concentrated on reading, writing and numeracy. The class have also been studying health care, focusing on parts of the body and their function. The children are beginning to learn English and are building a good vocabulary. It’s not all hard work though — Primary 1 love singing and playing games!

Primary One B class
Primary One B has 30 children and is taught by Miss Ako. As well as numeracy and literacy, the children have received tuition in health care and caring for the environment. They all enjoy time in the school library and especially the weekly art and PE class.

Primary Two class
Primary 2 is taught by Ms Francisca and Ms Tina. Primary 2 now has 65 children aged between 6 and 10 years — hence the need for two teachers! This term, they have concentrated on numeracy, reading and writing in both English and Kiswahili. They all use the library regularly and especially enjoy reading aloud to each other.

Primary 3 is once again being taught by Ms Aisha, who has been teaching at KYGN for over a year now. Primary 3 has 32 children aged 9–10. They have been learning maths, English, Kiswahili, science, social studies, civics and moral education. Primary Four class
Primary 4 has 33 children aged 8–12 and is taught by Mr Pascal. This is the all important year when the children take the state Primary 4 examination. This year’s group has a tough act to follow as last year’s results showed the KYGN students came fourth out of the 193 schools i the Moshi region — this includes all the expensive fee paying schools.

Primary Five class
Primary 5 has 33 children aged 11–14. So far this year, they have concentrated on maths, English, Kiswahili, science and history. All the Primary 5 children have performed well in monthly tests and mid-term exams. They all use the library regularly and enjoy borrowing books. Primary 5 are great at volleyball and also love playing football and jumping rope!

Primary Six class
Primary 6 is a class of 28 children aged 12–14 and is taught by Mr Benedict. This year, subjects covered include maths, civics, geography, history, and English. There is a lot of work to cover this year, and the children are required to work during the school holidays, ready for tests when they return. They still find time for sport, and football is a favourite.
